Kybella

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is a formulation of deoxycholic acid that is identical to a molecule your body already makes to help break down and absorb the fats in your diet. An injection of Kybella into the fat beneath your skin causes the destruction of fat cells — and once destroyed, those cells can no longer store or accumulate fat.

Many patients experience visible results in two to four treatment sessions spaced at least one month apart. A topical numbing cream may be applied thirty minutes before the procedure. An in-office treatment session usually lasts 15 to 20 minutes, which means you can even do this on your lunch break. Once the desired result is achieved with Kybella there is no need for re-treatment of the area.

Potential side effects can include some localized swelling at the treated area, along with minor discomfort, bruising or numbness.  Kybella treatments are currently only approved for the submental area though, as it is designed for small collections of fat cells.
